The Story of EcoXplorer Liveaboard
EcoXplorer Liveaboard, formerly known as Inbekwan, was originally a marine patrol vessel managed by The Nature Conservancy (TNC) and Conservation International (CI) in Raja Ampat. It was later granted to the EcoNusa Foundation and rebuilt from 2020 to 2022 in Bira, South Sulawesi, redesigned in the traditional Phinisi style to preserve the maritime heritage of its place of origin.
In May 2022, the vessel was renamed EcoXplorer and began a new chapter, operating with a renewed mission to support and empower local and Indigenous communities in Eastern Indonesia in safeguarding their natural ecosystems. Prior to its maiden voyage, the boat received blessings through a traditional ceremony led by the elders of the Moi tribe, an Indigenous community in Sorong.
100% of the profits from each trip directly support the EcoNusa Foundation’s social initiatives, including access to basic healthcare and education for remote and underserved communities.
